Same ol'

Weekend: Mom & Dad were in town for the weekend, so I didn’t have much time to work on guitar stuff. I had about an hour’s worth of practice time and I worked on my Bill Evan’s voicings on the acoustic guitar. It felt good to reconnect and the piece is sounding nice. I’m thinking of recording a before and after version of ATTYA to show how the Bill Evans voicings open up the tune.

Today Afternoon: I’ve been listening to the Evans piece a lot recently. I’ve been listening to a Mingus version & a Paul Desmond version as well. All three and giving me different ideas about what to do with the tune. My practice time today pretty much involved playing the voicings through the whole tune and improvising through the changes with a metronome. I’m coming up with a lot of good ideas and I’m becoming my fluent with playing through the changes. Next on my to-do list is to finish up some ideas of the Evans transcription and grab some material from Mingus’ version. Also, I have a transcription of Paul Desmond’s solo that I want to work on. I’ve got a lot to keep me busy.
